Two Bicycles

Emerging from the Colombian and Venezuelan social contexts and inspired by experiences in the border zone during their art residency BLURRED LINES, Santiago Velez and Ronald Pizzaferrato joined together to create this sculpture. TWO BICYCLES is an artwork that speaks for itself: two modified bicycles carrying each other build an analogy with the supportive relationship between Colombia and Venezuela. Through TWO BICYCLES, the artists remind us of the social importance of transportation in border zones. Helping people to move from one side of the border to another, trocheros are a group of people who transform bicycles into handcarts in order to cross the footpaths between countries. From Santiago Velez and Ronald Pizzaferrato’s perspective, Colombian trocheros represent a type of technology that is not virtual or digital, but a result of the migrant condition in Latin America.
