Surveillance and Urban Transformation
The following reports and podcasts document the ways in which digital surveillance has transformed cities, depending on the specific realities, needs, and experiences in each location. They examine the role and the power that local governments have in the constant (re)negotiation of the urban social contract and the provision of urban security services through surveillance. They analyse themes such as algorithmic accountability in urban surveillance technology, as well as predictive policing and its transformative role on our urban social contracts. Using Medellín as an example, the podcasts examine the ways in which digital security can make a city safer and the limitations of these measures, but also how citizens co-exist and respond to these technological changes in our society.
